Field Trips

Each year OCT entertains over 60,000 students with our field trip performances. Students experience the magic of live theatre—some of the very first time—alongside their peers and educators.

OCT also provides support to educators through production-themed resource guides, designed to extend learning from the stage right into the classroom. In these guides, educators will find curriculum and activities aligned with Common Core and SEL Standards for Oregon and Washington.

About Field Trips at OCT

  • OCT’s Mainstage productions are performed at the Newmark Theatre & Winningstad Theatre, located inside the Portland’5 Centers for the Arts.

Field trip performances typically are held at 9:45 and 11:45 am on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, depending on production.

  • Tickets for all field trips are $12 and $6 for Title 1 Schools.

  • To be more equitable, seating is now on a first-reserved basis. Seating will be assigned as reservations are booked beginning in the Orchestra level, followed by First Balcony and Second Balcony. We will continue to honor requests for students needing special accommodations for vision, hearing, or physical impairment.

Your invoice will inform you which seating area you have been placed in.

  • We do! Accessible seating is found on the first level of each of our venues. Please indicate in your reservation that you need accessible seating so you can be seated accordingly.

  • OCT believes that all children should have access to the arts: if you have a financial need we do have assistance available. Please complete this application and we will contact you as soon as possible.

Please note that funding assistance is limited and, due to the high number of requests we receive, we may not be able to respond to all applicants.

  • Booking a field trip is easy: simply complete the booking form for the show you’d like to attend. Field trips require a minimum of ten tickets in a reservation.

A member of our School Services team will contact you to confirm details about your field trip, including number of tickets needed and transportation arrangements.

  • We accept cancellations and seat adjustments up until your final payment date, which is 30 days prior to your performance.

If you are unable to attend after the one-month due date, your school will still be responsible for the amount due since we will not have adequate time to re-book your tickets and those seats will go unused. Thank you for your understanding.

  • A 50% deposit or School District Purchase Order is due within 30 days of receiving your invoice. Changes to ticket numbers are allowed up until your final payment, due 30 days prior to your show. No changes or cancellations will be allowed past this due date.

If we have not heard from you one month prior to the performance, your tickets may be released and given to a school on our waitlist. If you need more time to pay for your school’s tickets we are happy to work with you; please contact us directly at teachers@octc.org.

If you are unable to attend after the one-month due date, your school will still be responsible for the amount due since we will not have adequate time to re-book your tickets and those seats will go unused. Thank you for your understanding.

  • OCT does NOT arrange for transportation to field trips; this responsibility must be managed by the school. We are happy to provide contact information and other resources that may be helpful when arranging transportation. Please note that many bussing companies book quickly and we recommend contacting them prior to your two-week confirmation date.

  • Please contact our School Services team by email at teachers@octc.org or call (503) 228-9571.
